The Iowa State Capital West Front Pediment restoration began in the late 1980's and was completed in the early 1990's.  The original native Iowa sandstone carvings were removed from the Capital building, sent to Indiana were they were re-assembled and then duplicated out of Indiana Limestone.

The carvings consisted of five greater than life size figures. Beginning on the left the first figure represented transportation, she had a train on one side and a ship on the other. The ship had the name HMS Pinafore carved into the bow, apparently named after the popular opera performance of the period (1879).

Justice was the second figure, she was to carry the scales of justice, made of bronze, with a lectern to her side.

The center figure was Liberty, standing the tallest at just over 13 feet, with a bronze torch in her right hand.

The fourth figure represented Knowledge.

The fifth figure represented agriculture, with Milo on one side and a plow on the other.
